Default Burning oil?!

So I'm at 3800 miles and my DIS tells me I need more oil, I call up the service department who tells me to put more oil in it and any oil will do. Knowing that any oil will not do I called back and got another guy who tells me the A4 burns 1qt of oil every thousand miles. Is this correct? My family has many new cars with synthetic oil and I was told that that situation was strange. Anybody know whats up? Thanks for the info ahead of time!

This is normal. Just top it up, after the full break in you should see it gets better.

Engines can vary tremendously in the amount of oil they burn. Most cars I have ever owned didn't burn any oil at all but there have been a few that did. Generally turbo and supercharged engines will be a little more likely than others to do so.
Most manufacturers have some really rediculous amount of oil loss/burn they state as "normal". I have seen one quart for every 600 miles to be within "normal" range... Anyhow, get the proper weight synthetic and keep it topped off. Hopefully your valve seals are just taking a little while to seat and then she will get over her oil drinking habit...

From what I've read, it appears to be normal for a newer engine to burn oil at that rate. I just put in my second quart of oil @8500 miles. It's a little annoying, not gonna lie, but it's not the end of the world. I just hope it gets better time like I've heard...
