Is this a good year in general? Oil problem still exists? Any other problems I should be aware of?
Also what are my options to to make it faster?

If it is a CPO car then you have some protection. If it is not then it's a crap shoot. Some people say that the "bad ring" problem was with the 2009-2011 cars and others have had oil issues with 2007 and 2008 as well as 2014 cars.
This is an inherent problem with the early 2.0's and the redesigned 2.0's. They all use oil only some use less then others. Good luck
