Does iPOD interface work with iPhone 3G?

Picked up the car last nite, but the cable was out of stock, so I couldn't test it. Does the iPOD interface charge an iPhone 3G? (The 3G uses USB for charging - not Firewire. So many older interfaces will not charge it.)
