I ordered from Performance Improvements in TO. K&N apparently doesn't list it as the right part number (yet) but it fits fine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but K&N says should be cleaned every 50K miles (unless you're in a really dusty area). I did notice that for a few years after my new house was built with a lot of dirt and dust around, it needed to be cleaned a little more frequently than that. There's no harm in cleaning every 20KM or so. Wont' void warranty... it's just an air filter.

Anyone have a link to the exact filter being discussed? Are we talking about a replacement drop-in filter or a full intake?

It's a drop in filter element... there's no full intake - yet. The part I believe is 33-2945. Ebay's got some... but you can't use most website and select the B8 as they don't have it x-referenced yet. If you go to the K&N Site and search for the 33-2945, it lists the B8.

the 33-2945 filter does fit in the B8 cars. the biggest diff is that the filter is 1/2 the thickness of the OEM and does not have a cotton filter stuck to the bottom of it. This i believe would make the K&N capable of passing more air threw it at any given speed then the OEM. As I have a stasis exhaust, I can not hear if just by changing the air filter to this K&N piece has had any effect on the noise from the turbo but I hope not for the exhaust is loud enough as it is.

So how much of a difference did this filter make? Does it last longer than the OEM filter? Because I have had the car for about 10 000K now and I doubt the filter needs a change any time soon. Also so I do have to wash the extra oil out of the filter?

there's no HP difference. so why even bother? the OEM filter also filters out dirt better.

+1
You have to be very careful with oiled gauze filters...a little oil blowing off that filter will ruin your MAF sensor and if the dealer knows it was the filter to blame, no warranty coverage. Do a little research like Esandes likely has done, and you will find that paper filters although not quite as volumetricly efficeint, do a better job cleaning the air.
Another thing to keep in mind is that force fed engines (intercooled turbo & super chargers) tend to have less improvements with CAIs and free flow filters.

Yeah your right... It's the good K&N part number for the B8 2.0T!

Btw, I will go for the BSR drop in air filter VAG 4-5hp gains at the wheels...

Hey, ^^ So are those published gains? Also does that air filter have the oil that K an N filters do that may mess with the mass flow sensor?
