Default 'Key' removal

Our A4 has the electronic key thingy that is inserted in the dash, and pressed to start the engine, and again to stop it.
Often, our key thingy is very hard to remove from the dash when the engine is turned off.
Is there something we're doing or not doing, or is there a problem with the car?
Thanks,
Moon

This seems to be a common problem. Be sure to solidly depress the key when you turn the car off or the mechanism will tend to only partially release. If you are fully depressing the key each time and still have problems, yours may have an issue that needs to be addressed by the dealer.

One thing to note while following these instructions is that you do not have to actually restart the car. You can simply leave your foot off the brake pedal and the car will not start but the key will cycle through the lock/unlock process.

Belatedly figured out what the link suggested; waiting before trying to remove the key. What was so misleading was that the key thingy would sometimes come out with a smooth, quick motion, while other times it hangs up. My wife restarted the car four times before she got the key out the other day.
Anyway, we seem to be sorted out now, but thanks so muchfor the info.
