My younger brother and I love Audi's in general but we heard The A4 B8's are like tanks on the roads. We would like to know your opinion on it and what should we look for when buying one?

I read online that we should look for a A4 Quattro Manual V4 models but no one speaks about mileage/km's on it.

Any advices would be appreciated!

I have owned an A6 and two A4s. They are solid sports touring vehicles but they are not light, quick vehicles. I drive a lot of highway (=autobahn) and they are stable and track well at 120-150kms. I have driven both briefly in excess of 200 km with no control issues. They are fantastic in wind, rain, and snow. The 2.0T petrol engine is plenty peppy, but if you need more power look at the S4. My days of chipping and high speed driving are over so this car is more than fast enough to break every speed limit in the USA in stock form. If you consider the 2.0T, I advise a late 2012 or even a 2013+ vehicle to avoid the engine oil blowby in the US 2009-2011s.

All four have been manuals - they only way I buy a car. Reliability on all three was very good but there was regular maintenance (full synthetic oil, filters) and I replaced most fluids around 95k kms. Yes, some more expensive repairs were needed but I kept the cars a long time and they were all high mileage. I was confident enough to buy the 2011 A4 used with 100k miles and have put another 36k miles on in four years -- it is used only in the winter. Gas mileage with American premium (91 octane) is 23-24 mpg (38 km/gal) around town; highway at 100 kph is 30-31 mpg (48 km/gal); but it does drop at higher speeds 120-145 kph to 27-29 mpg (45 km/gal). Where you guys from?

 

Hey first off thanks for the reply and we're from Montreal with a rough winter. Did you own the B series of the A4 or the regular A4?

 

I bought a 2003 A4 (B6 I think) with the 3.0 petrol and a 6-speed for my daughter in high school. She drove it for 10 years and from 70 to 150k miles. Only sold it because she wanted a Jeep. I told her not to. Now she regrets it and wants to buy mine. She drove it four years in college near Utica NY, so plenty of snow.

I picked up the 2011 (B8) in the signature in 2014 and it is a winter driver for me. I live in Holland MI, about 2 km from Lake Michigan, and we usually have 3+ meters of snow (mostly lake effect) during the winter. The car is fantastic up to about 10-12" of snow and then tends to float a little on the plastic belly pan. But it has no problem with slush and 2-6" of snow. I run all-season tires. I think you are required to have snows, so something like Blizzaks would be even better.
