Because of our need for a car that could hold a walker and/or wheel chair, I opted to sell my 2008 Lexus SC430 and purchase a wagon. After a careful research, I decided that the 2012 Audi A4 Avant was superior the Acura, BMW 3 series, Volvo 70 or Acura TSX.

I have had the Avant now for a week and am very pleased with my choice. It has the room, comfort, acceleration, appointments, Quattro stability and visual beauty that my wife and I most desire in an automobile. Best of all, when I am seated behind the steering wheel, I feel a sense of security and pleasure.

I have had my Avant three weeks and have enjoyed every mile driven.

The only thing I miss from my former car is its backup camera system. So far, my search for an aftermarket system for the Avant has failed to find either a system that displays on the Nav MMI screen or an installer in the Phoenix, AZ area to install one if I can find it.

The clip-on mirror display does not appear to me to be a good substitute.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

 

nice looking avant. those wheels are new. a back-up camera is great-almost necessary-for big SUVs and trucks. i would think you'd just get used to backing up your new a4 without a camera to assist. does it at least have the radar feature where it beeps faster as you get closer to something when you back up? i thought they offered it standard on 2008+ models.

 

My Avant DOES NOT have the audio sensor warning system nor the backup camera system. This is the reason I want to install an aftermarket system.

It is entirely my fault that even though I ordered these things and thought that they were integral to the Avant I purchased, I drove from the dealership WITHOUT checking to see if they were indeed installed. They were not!

Circumstances at that time were such that I did not have the emergy or time-opportunity to take the car back to the dealer. Without going into detail, I picked up the car the day following my departure from the hosptial after having suffered a heart attack the week before.

Regardless of these things, I truly like my Avant and think it is a wonderful wagon.

Now, if I can find a backup camera system and an installer, I will be satisfied.

 

Check your local car audio shops - many of them can install backup cameras. I am not sure where the screen would go, but you can see what's available.

 

I have checked audio shops as well as auto shops in the metro and suburban areas in my location. No one wants to do the Audi messing with the Nav or MMI. They will do a mirror display.

Clipping the display mirror video display over the factor mirror would lose the compass feature and I think it takes away from the looks of the Audi interior. Besides, I prefer a larger size screen to see when I am backing up.

 

You would think so...
Our 2011 did not come with any sort of back up assistance. Of course, I am used to not having this and it is not necessary, in my opinion, but it is convenient when driving the Audi loaners while mine is being serviced that I wish I had it at times.
