Now that Audi isn't going to sell the A6 Avant stateside any ideas on how to get one here? I really like the 2012 A6 sedan. Having seen that the new A6, I don't really want a 2011 model.

I am so interested I discussed options with an importer and would be 10-12K for parts 3-4K install to convert to US spec. The taxes and certs cost much less, but add to the cost. There has to be a better way.

Can you order US spec A6 Avants from Germany and just pay for the emissions cert and register when it gets here? That'd make this feasible.

Is anyone else in the US eager to get a new A6 avant? There may be economies of scale in bringing over a few.

 

I would acculy love a brand new 2012 A6 Avant. But getting them shiped over here and converted, big pain.

 

Beyond just the conversion, emissions, taxes and shipping are other issues:
1. Insuring a car that most companies aren't familiar with
2. Financing is unlikely to be possible
3. After federalizing the car, you still need to get a new title in your state.

I'm thinking it is still possible. The only really expensive bit is making it US spec. It wouldn't be too cost prohibitive if Audi DE will sell a US spec one somewhere in the EU. Looking into that currently. I've heard rumors Audi tries to make that difficult, but I can't see why - they get a sale and make money. We'll see.
