Default Optimum highway speed

Has anyone seen any info on the optimum highway speed for fuel consumption with respect to the 2.0T, specifically on the A4. A friend has a BMW 7 series and insists that he gets best gas mileage on the highway at 73mph. Noob here. did a search and couldn't find specific info. Thanks

I've found that approx. 65MPH gets me about 33MPG.

I've found that 70mph has gotten me 28-30 mpg. But a rule of thumb is 60mph on cruise control gives the best mpg, but idk how this differs per car.

I find (after 10k miles) that the B8 hunkers down and cruises efortlessly @ 85-90 mph, with a respectable 25mpg+.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your highest fuel economy is going to be in the 40-50 MPH range. It will usually end up at a speed that is just high enough to keep the transmission from dropping down a gear. Now your best mix of speed and economy is going to be around 55-65 as aero drag increases exponentially. Good aerodynamics allow you to cruise pretty efficiently up into the 70s but it is not your "best" speed for pure economy.

Bump.

I am still in the testing to find the best optimal speed. I usually look at the trip computer to see my gas consumption and try hitting the cruise control.

I'll agree here. Open highways and roads allow me the best MPG, and I watch this closely. Last weekend we did a 4 hour trip to VA Beach, averaging 69mph, once on the freeways with cruise and averaged 33.4 mpg.

On the way back traffic was slower. We averaged 54 mph and 29.6 mpg.

Typical tips though... use cruise when you can, avoid using break (coast in traffic and to lights) and start off from a stop slowly.
