Post Break-in Period Review
Okay, so I just surpassed 1000 miles on my new B8 Premium Plus Package this weekend. I decided to find out what it could really do so I took it to an open road, put in sport mode, and really floored it. Woosh the car blasted forward like it was shot of a cannon. Holy crap! This car is much faster than I ever expected!! It 's definitely faster than my old B7 2.0T six speed. I LOVE MY CAR!!
2009 A4 2.0T Premium Plus Triptronic.
Previous Audis:
2007 A4 2.0T six speed
1997 A6 2.8

All the manual says about the break-in period is:
- Do not use full throtle
- Do not drive faster the 3/4 of the top speed marked on the speedometer
- avoid high engine speeds
Seems simple enough. Is there anything special we should be doing besides what is stated above? Also, it says not faster than 3/4 top speed. The speedometer says top speed is 180. That would mean 3/4 would be about 130. Or since the car is liimited to 130mph, are we really not to exceed about 97mph?

For anyone considering buying or leasing a new B8 A4 with the 2.0T engine: there is a huge difference in performance after the break in period. When I first looked into buying one, the tester that I drove had less than 50 miles on it. I was not impressed at all with acceleration. There appeared to be too much hestitation and turbo lag.
It seemed much slower than my 2007 B7 2.0T six speed. Ask your dealer if they have a broken-in version that you can drive. The difference in performance is really astonishing. The 0-60 time qouted by Audi of 6.7 seconds has to be wrong (or maybe the was test that they conducted was prior to the engine being fully broken-in). I think that Car and Driver's test of 0-60 in 5.7 seconds is more accurate. IMO, this car is really fast and would blow the doors off my old B7!
Hats off to the Audi engineers for designing such a great car!

I bought the A4 Prem Pkg 2.0 with the Audi Care, Im at about 1200 KMs but I could not resist giving it full throtle when a few guys lined me up with there ricers. I dont do it ofton or much im in Canada (hence using the KMs) I waited till i drove it around and it was warm I didnt just throw it in drive and got nascar mode tho.
I was told as long as you give it about 500kms of driving you should be okay they said the break in period is the dealers way of not having to replace any parts that werent installed or "bent into shape properly".
