Audi will always play it a little safe with the trans software as they don't want us blowing the engine internals all over the road...

I understand that redlining isn't really good for the car, but its not much fun in manual mode if you don't have control of the shifts entirely.
YOU SHOULD NOT BE RUNNING IT THAT HARD DURING BREAK IN, <1000 MILES. You did say you just go it right?

Well, the car is not meant to redline with an Automatic transmission. unless the transmission is upgraded to a level 10.

I haven't played with the Tiptronic yet, but want to play with it after I hit 1000K. Has anyone firgured out the approximate shift points as they relate to mph for each gear?

I was told my the sales associate that there was no break-in period. I just picked it up Saturday, and gave it full throttle a few times merging on the freeways. I hope I didn't ruin anything.

Maybe you should call your sales associate and ask them to read page 259 of the A4 owners manual.
