Rough Idle, Sputter, Die

Default Rough Idle, Sputter, Die

So...I have run into an issue with my 2010 Audi A4. She's at ~105k miles and last fall developed some idling issues (throwing error code P2178). Basically, it will turn over, sputter for five to ten seconds, and die. It just started to do this, but a week ago it did idle roughly at a light for a few seconds, before returning to normal and running fine for a week, before deciding it doesn't want to move. I replaced sparks and ignition coils and neither helped.

Some history. Had issues in November of last year, as well. At the time, I replaced the PCV Valve Engine Crankcase Vent. That didn't solve the issue, so I replaced the Fuel Oil Pressure Sensor, and that did solve the issue.

Any thoughts on how to pinpoint the issue?? Many thanks in advance!

What codes are you seeing now.

This would indicate a faulty O2 sensor . I would look at replacing it as it would be the lowest cost option. Also check the connection at the MAF sensor and maybe clean it if the O2 sensor doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks. I replaced the high pressure fuel pump today and it helped, but didn't fix the problem. The car doesn't outright die now. Idles with a few sputters here and there.

Think best nest step is O2 sensor (front? rear?)? Someone else is also mentioning injectors?
