Shifter stuck in Park

Shifter stuck in Park
My 2009 A4 Cabriolet is stuck in Park. The shifter indicator shows the the little foot icon. But it goes out when I step on the brake pedal. With my foot on the brake, the light goes out but I still cannot move the shifter out of Park.
