just purchased a 1997 audi a4 quattro 1.8t MTM.

The MTM badge appears on the rear of the car under the quattro sign and also on the engine. Can someone tell me what this stands for and what significance it has? ie. is this some sort of racing brand and what is the difference between an MTM a4 and a normal a4?

From what I could find. Looks like MTM was a company with after market chips and etc for your Audi.

Not sure. They're the ones who built the "Gallardo Killer" R8 though - it uses the RS4 supercharger kit and cranks out 560hp instead of the stock 420hp. There was an article in European Car (I think) over the summer. Nasty car for sure.

 

yea it was in EC....it was a very bad azz car!
i think the article was sub titled, germany builds a better ferrari.

it was a few months ago, i still have the issue at home...i can check it when i get off work if you really want to know.

but i think its safe to say, that you have an mtm chip in your car, as far as 286bhp....are you in north america? BHP sounds like europe....maybe they did have an MTM edition available over there? or maybe somebody just bought the badges and stuck them on....who knows?

MTM also makes a twin (1.8t) engine TT, that goes over 240mph!

can you post pics of the car/engine etc?
how cool would that be if somebody actually has an MTM b5 a4!

 

sure heres a photo here. as you can see the engine bay is a bit more modified than the standard a4 quattro. The air intake box is made of carbon fibre and their is a wastegate coming off of the turbo. Im in New Zealand so we drive on the left side of the road. heres some more pics of the car:

the k24 turbo, 286bhp, 4 individual head injectors! (wtf), exhaust, intercooler......the car is pimp from the factory....
