Bmw is a great company, very few car makers have come close to what they have acheived, then again Audi had so much history, and after the 90's slump, they have been rising back to the status that it once was. In the end there two very diff companys, but very alike in many ways, one thing is for sure is that they both think of us, the drivers, instead of sales figures and awards, and that is what makes them both great.

No matter what we say, its driver opinion in the end. Its what the person behind the wheel feels is more suitable for them, what makes them happy. For most of us here, Audi seems the better choice, buts its what we like, its what where happy with.

I remember when i was looking for a car, i was looking for something powerfull, beautifull, safe, and unique. I knew right away i was looking for something german. I have many friends who own Bmw's, some bought it for badge, while others bought it cause of the engine and the way it drives (sad to say, not many bought it for the engine). I always and will forever respect that company, because those enigineers are mad scientists, but the designers are not in my opinion, as gifted. So as you can tell, my choice was Audi. She's a 03 Audi A6 2.7t 6sp. I choose it for the style, the comfort, the engine, the AWD Quattro, and honestly a big factor was, well where i live, not to many Audis, and I always preferd going off the trail.

In the end making a choice between Audi and BMW is purely opinion, its like trying to choose which of your kids you like the best, sure theres the one thats great in every sport he plays, but then there the one whos going to Harvard. Tough Choice. But I'll stick with my Audi.

BMW and Audi are both excellent, world class, technology-driven companies. Both have a long and distinguished history in motor sports. Their products are some of the finest automobiles man has ever known. I both have a high degree of respect and admiration for both BMW and Audi for what they have achieved and for what they will achieve. I chose Audi over BMW for two reasons:

I get snow and ice where I live and obviously, the Quattro AWD system was a no-brainer for me compared with BMW's Xi line. Besides, the Xi line doesnt even produce a car that even remotely comes close to the power of an S4, let alone an RS4. If i lived in Sunny California or Florida, then yes, maybe i would have an E39 M5 or maybe the latest M3 sedan. But all-year driveability is important for me since i am looking for a daily driver. The next deciding factor was the impeccable and superb quality, craftsmanship and beauty of Audi's interiors. The S4 interior is one of the best there is out there - dare i say on par with marques like Mercedes Benz and even Ferrari.

Thumbs down Audi vs. Bmw

heres my take on this question...

I was driving my brand new Audi S4 around 110 through some traffic. Not realizing that I passed an undercover police in an SUV. Looking in my rear view i saw him behind the car behind me. I was close to my exit and I could easily lose him in the traffic. The conditions were dry and it was a little cold out. I dropped a gear and floored it... ESP was still on... From third lane to first and then third again... only problem was when i got back to third lane and straightened out the car ESP kicked and tried to correct what I had already corrected.... ****:..... The back of the car slammed into the gaurd rail pulling the front of it into the guard rail as well... Bouncing from there the car did two 360's and I landed in an exit lane....

Ended up with a broken rear axle... two rims.. two tires... fenders... doors... new radio... all together $15,000 and loss of license for 2 years... pretty fun... LOL

BMW... I also own two bmw's an X5 and a 330i... The x5 obviously wouldnt be good at that situation but the 330i definitely wouldn't have spun out in that situation....

Bottom line-
BMW= more sporty
Audi= more luxury (even in an S model)

This just doesn't make sense to me. What kind of tires do you run? Were they cold? I hate to admit that I've done some manuevering at high speeds, but it is hard for me to believe that you haven't left something out. How long have you been driving? How long have you had this car?

Just curious.

As for me BMW vs. Audi...

These past few years I've really come to like the exterior of the '98+ BMW and Audi. The edge going to Audi in their more recent models. It is obvious they are both beautiful cars, especially the M and S/RS flavors. As for the interior I've only been in some older ('80s/'90s) BMWs and only the low millenium Audis. So, I can't really say anything other than I love my A6 (outside of the fact it doesn't have cold weather package).

Power wise I am happy with my car. It isn't the fastest car on the street, nor the fastest Audi, but it is still a contender with most of the newer cars from other manufacturers. With that, being a 7 y/o car, it just proves how well Audi designed/produced these cars. In fact, that most recent commercial with the car doing a 0-60 makes me laugh. I tell people, "My car does that too, and that was 7 years ago!"

Handling has been great. I'd say the weakest part of cornering (entrance/exit ramps) for me is in the tires. I improved the already wonderful sport suspension with after-market parts which has helped the roll and dive quite a bit.

A fun, fairly safe story...

I went down on my bike almost 2 weeks ago (a fluke; I'm mad about it still) so I drove the A6 up to our weekly bike meet. It wasn't the best turn out, but that usually makes things more exciting. About 15 sportbikes, me, and another guy driving a Acura TL Type-S. From where we ate back to downtown (the guys like to get drinks after dinner) was about 8-9 miles of a mixture of 4-lane divided road down to 2 lanes with street parking. There were a few times I managed to take the lead because I felt comfortable with some quick lane changes and moving around other cars. (Then we came to a stop light and the bikes moved to the front - CHEATERS! ) Outside of the few leads I had I was right behind the pack. After we arrived at our destination the few comments I received were as follows. "Man, I didn't think you were gonna make it around that car before the lane ended." And the follow up from another guy, "Yeah, it was real tight, but there was no body roll. It was just shoom, shoom, shoom!" Another guy at the back of the pack mentioned, "You had me worried, I thought you were a cop, but then when we were at a stop light you waved." These are the times you're proud to own an Audi. And for all those people that think BMWs are more involving they just never learned how to use the tip properly. Brilliant!

In regards to maintenance. Things haven't been too bad. Over the last few years I replaced the bearings, front rotors, performance pads, upgraded to stainless steel brake lines, and upgraded shocks/springs/sways. There is a minor oil leak at the valve covers, the A/C compressor switch is intermittent, and the pollen filter box needs to be replaced as the sensor broke off when I replaced the battery. So far, after 20k miles this car has been awesome (80k total on the dash). Other than these repairs, the TB and control arms need to be taken care of. Fuel consumption hasn't been amazing, but it is to be expected with a V-8. Average of about 22-24 depending on freeway speed and about 17-18 in the city if I'm good to her.

I was thinking about treating myself to a trade-in after I returned from my deployment earlier this year. I ran it by my wife and she said I could, but that we couldn't afford another Audi. I told her, "Well, I guess I'm not trading it in then!"

Cheers!

I picked up a '98 B5 A4 2.8Q tiptronic with 90k for 7 grand back in May and thought all in all it was a great purchase. Handles well and for the money spent, couldn't beat the price. I know I should have looked into it more for the reason being so cheap of a price, is that there were several things wrong with the car after a few months of finding out the problems. The car was misfiring on cylinder's 4 and 6, needed a new vacuum pump, spark plugs, front pads and rotors, and also needs to have the left and right chain tensioners done, left and right axle flange seal's are leaking and have to be fixed, rear trans seal is leaking. Yeah..so all in all the car's a money pit, but reassuring the quality and the engine itself has proven me worthy of Audi being a safe and reliable car if maintained properly.

After finding out about all of the things wrong with the car, I started looking at 01-04 BMW 3 series since test driving one a few months back and actually fell in love with the way it handled, but so under powered as it only had a 2.5L 184hp I-6. The guy wanted 12 grand for a 2000 323i with 129k on the engine, in which my case was a bit over priced. I wouldn't have paid more than 10 grand for that matter in which it almost seemed too good to be true. So in the end, I decided to stick with my Audi for another year as I'm a broke 22 year old(23 on November 5th :-D) college student finishing for my bachelor's degree in a year. Maybe then I'll look towards picking up a new car, and this time probably an 04-06 Nissan Maxima or 04-06 Acura TL.
