Unhappy Extended warranty/class action lawsuit

Yes, recieved mine in the mail today, and I've only owned the car for two weeks. This is regarding the timing belt failures that have been occurring in the 2000-2003 A4 and TT models with the 1.8T.Guess I'll be taking her to the stealership for the next maintenance and timing belt inspection. Guess I'll be getting a new timing belt on Audi's dime, but will have to pay stealership maintenance prices in the meantime ?

Newbie here;

Yah I got that letter, sounds like their gonna look at it then tell you it needs replacing so you can pay $$$ B/4 they have to. Only people who benifit are the ones who already blew their motor.

This "recall" is to inspect the tensioning system for the timing belt. There have been cases where the tensioning roller gets off track and causes the belt to rub and run off center, eventually resulting in failure of the belt (and you all know what that will do). We have done a number of these inspections so far and have only found 1 that had belt damage. We have however, discovered more than one that the belt was cracked so badly it was just a matter of time before disaster. All were 1.8L that were close to 100K miles and due for a belt regardless. As long as your dealer is reputable they will not tell you it needs a belt if it doesn't. As far as I know, belt replacement is not covered by this unless the damage is caused by the tensioning system. That's the way I understand it, although a service advisor would know the full details better than Me.

all - we have to pay to have the belt replaced at OUR COST!! unless we object to the calss action suit!!

here is a letter I am sending - read the suit closely!! We need to get a bunch of people to respond to this by AUGUST 31, 2008!!!

feel free to use the letter below:

To whom it may concern:
I am currently the owner of a 2003 Audi A4 (Quattro 1.8T). I recently received notice of the class action suit with regard to the timing belt issues that correspond to the vehicle I own. I am writing to object to one portion of the settlement benefits that have been agreed to. I believe that Audi should be responsible for covering the replacement of a timing belt if it needs to be replaced before 105,000 miles.
When I purchased my vehicle I bought it after reviewing the maintenance schedule and I was under the impression that my timing belt should last a minimum of 105,000 miles before it needed to be replaced. I now find out that Audi, without admitting any guilt, now changes their stance and agrees that the timing belt should be replaced earlier. How can they change their stance without admitting to any wrongdoing? If I had known I would be burdened with the expense of changing the timing belt early I may not have purchased the car.
In saying the maintenance schedule for the timing belt should be at or after 105,000 miles Audi should be held to their original maintenance schedule and if they knowingly put parts in their cars that did not meet that schedule Audi should be responsible for replacing that part at their cost, not at the expense of the consumer. I strongly believe that the court should force Audi to pay for replacement of the timing belts that need to be replaced (as deemed by the dealership) before 105,000 miles.
Thank you for considering my objection.

I think it is only up to the 2003 model. Check out the website I posted in the thread before your question. It should have all the details

Default Schedule for belt replacement is still 105k

I got my notice in the mail and it included an ownersmanual insert suplement which states the belt must be inspected at 40k and 80k, and is to be replaced at 105k. Therefore they are not admitting to any failures, but just want to inspect them earlier I guess to see if the tensioner starting to fail.

Well the technicians will take a look at the belt as a whole and will basically look at the tensioner to check for its conditions. Audi most likely won't cover the belt out of warranty, but the technicians are required to look at the belt, and with hopes of honestly, tell you whether or not you need a timing belt as maintenance. As with vehicles of any brand, malfunctions and wear happens to some sooner than to other ones. We are required to look even if a timing belt maintenance has already been performed, or even if the vehicle has, let's say, two hundred thousand miles. It is done by year and VIN application, and only for the 1.8T.

Took my 2001 225hp to Royal Motors in San Francisco
For the courtesy timing belt inspection
Yeah most above info is correct, The dealership is trying to force people to reduce their maintenance interval by providing a free timing belt inspection
In case you need a timing belt, their stance, they will not provide this as a courtesy.

Anyways I still had them look at my car and GUESS WHAT???
These dealership mechanics are realy something, THEY ALL SUCK
So called factory trained technician did not install my timing belt cover properly
Basically after the cover came lose during a drive and jammed against my belt made alot of noise and then shredded 1/2 my belt

I called the dealership and this numb skull tells me to drive it to the dealership
Is this guy a idiot???

I told him I need a tow truck unless he was willing to risk the belt coming apart and BAM that would be it for my motor, piston slamming into valves

He didnt seem to understand
Sequence of events
Monday had inspection took car home
Thursday night I took car for a drive, now my Timing belt and Timing cover are TOAST
Friday Im trying to get dealership to tow my car and they are not helping
Right now SUNDAY and I have work on Monday
IM a little bit sad
Can anybody understand how I feel right now?
