I don't think you'll see shared components between the two brands. It would be more of a testing base for porsche on something cosmetic or something. Pretty much like with the GM line-up.
One could make an arguement over the sucess of the GM brand idea. Look what has happened to Saab. Their SUV is a Trailblazer, their small sports sedan is a Subaru. Just about anything else they have that is new is on an Opel platform or has the engine. Do you think Audi will get Porsche engines, or the other way around? I highly doubt they will test cosmetic things out either. Porshe would shoot itself in the foot if it tried to use Audi styling cues. People buy these cars sometimes as much for what they look like than how they perform. Trying to blend them somehow, even slightly, would muddle them all together.ORIGINAL: playa256

My guess is the only logical objective for such a merger would be to develop a kick-a$$ racing program. Imagine a Porsche/Audi tearing up LeMans or Daytona. They'd probably sell a few more 911's and R8's. Or, to fantasize a bit, they blend them together. Thats one amalgamation I would like to see...
RE: Porsche Buyout of Audi
i thought that the orginal inventor or porsche (w/e his name is ) invented porshce then his grandson invented Audi?? em i right at all?? anyway i doubt any american company will buy any other car company at the moment seeing how they just finished doing those buyouts
RE: Porsche Buyout of Audi
Porsche didn't invent Audi as I remember it. The two companies(Porsche and what was to become Audi)did work on at least one project together around the time of WWII. The truth is that Ferdinand Porsche(born 1875) was part of almost every single important development in early German automotive history and his heirs continued that tradition. Ferdinand worked for and consulted with many automotive companies in the early years. I don't think he worked for or with BMW - and that explains alot.
Ferdinand was the first person to put individualelectric motors driving all four wheels on a car. So in that sense, he invented Quattro.

RE: Porsche Buyout of Audi
Audi and Porsche and VW have alot of influence already on reach other. Most of the Porsche parts and TSB's are shared throughout VW and Audi. The Porsche tech i work with says that most of the future Porsche models will have more shared engines. Atleast in the US because of a the emissions required by the federal government. Same goes for almost every car maker on the planet.

I'm sure what they are looking for is what GM and others do where they produce one chassis and engine and put various brands/models on it. Big financial gains to be made there. It would be the extension of the Tourag/Cayenne thing, only spread out even more. Think howmany modelsNissan/Infiniti gets out of a single engine. Will Porsche elevate VW/Audi performance or will those companies just help expand the Porsche model line with shared components?
what would suck is if it did go the way of GM whereit doesn't matter what name is on the car, they are all the same with small aesthetic changes.ilikeknowing that mycar is in the same family and may have some cross technology, but looks, and acts nothing like any porsche and i would feelthe same towards audi if iowned a porsche.ORIGINAL: pturbo

ifthe merger works to better both companies, im all for it, so long as both stay unique andseparated from one another. i could see the 88 going bye bye andaudi focusing on the"roomier" sport lux department andporsche loosing the cayenne being dumpedso focus couldbe on the q7 for suv, and just getback to focusing on performance and supercars.
RE: Porsche Buyout of Audi
I hope that Porsche can stay true to itself as well and not lose its soul in the quest for cash. Time will tell.
I know that Porsche already looked into using the A8 chassis for the Panamera and decided that it wouldn't work and went a different direction. If Porsche bought Audi, I wonder if the A8 would end up on a Panamera chassis and what impact that would have on future versions of the A8/S8. Lambo engine, Porsche chassis, Audi styling - it could be a great car. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Check out this crappy spy photo of a Panamera close to a GT3. That thing is huge!

that thing has some porsche features to it, but it reminds me of a maserati but yeah, giant compared to the 911. i just think that if that buyout is successful, that audi =4 door, porsche = 2 door. who needs a panamera when you can get an s8? and who needs a tt when you can get a cayman? just my thoughts on that.

Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Bugatti each have they own images. I doubt Porsche would mess with that. Especially since none of them seem to be losing money. With Porsche owning 25% of VAG already, it seems like they're buying it one piece at a time.
