Default 1986 5000S Question

Went to charge the battery on this newly acquired car and noticed some type of vacuum valve with elelctronic control sitting next to it under the seat. There is a black vacuum hose attached to it with a plugable wiring harness connected but I have no idea what it is. There is also a clear vinyl tube laying under the seat that goes through the floor but there is nothing connected on the passenger compartment side. Any idea what these are for?

Thanks, exactly. Found it in an online schematic diagram. Any idea what the extra clear hose is for that runs through the rear floor under the right seat is for?

The clear hose was most likely for the battery vent. Audi (VAG) used batteries with an external vent when they were placed in the passenger compartment.

Thanks for the info. I would imagine there must have been some type of battery container or the like to house the original battery, but anyhow, I appreciate the feedback.
