I know there is an o-ring there but I will replace it and see if it helps. Where is the best point to check the engine vacuum and what should the reading be. Are there any sensors that have to do with the timing of the engine ?

There must be something off like maybe by one tooth. If I set the timing as per the diagram the engine pings badly. I have to advance it to make it run halfway decent. Is there anywhere I can go and see a listing of all the tune up specs for that particular engine. The manual for that vehicle is so expensive and not in the budget at the moment.

Thank You

Steve

Brake cleaner huh.. hmmm never heard of that one.. how do you do that?

I start by setting the timing at TDC but it pings bad there. I don't know what degree to set it at or where the marks are for that.

you need about 6 deg. for begining, if sucks, then probably 18 deg.
engine model? year of the car, number of valves? would be more helpfull.

The engine is a 5 cyl 2.3 L.. It is a 10 valve engine..it is a 1989 Audi 90. I am having some other problems with it. I am sure it is something small but I don't want to drop a fortune in all new sensors. The timing is a good start. How do I know where 6 degrees is. I dont see any marks on flywheel other than the bump for TDC

I know. the cam and crank are aligned perfectly. I need to tweak the distributor. What I don't know is what mark do I look at on the flywheel when aiming the timing light. I set it now where the bump on the flywheel is at the bottom of the opening. Is there a mark for degrees?

O, on the fly wheel there is a line and a circle or a line. Two markings. the one is TDC, the other before it is the ignition mark. as you be getting closer to the cam mark, you will see it. There is a window for it below the destrebuter. Hope it helps.

Thank You that is what I needed to know for now. I will set the timing tomorrow and see how it runs from there. It has been running just ok.. One thing though. Once it warms up and I stop at a traffic light.. when I step back on the peddle it hesitates so bad that on several times it stalled out. That takes about 15 mins of driving time to do that.
