Default 4000cs quattro loss of all power

I have an 87 4000 cs quattro that will not go faster than 35mph up a hill, and will not go past 4000 rpms. What are the possible problems that would do this?

isnt that normal for a 4k??? kidding, sorry. My car did the same thing and it was the cold start valve/switch. Is the engine totally smooth at slower driving conditions?

INEXILE first please try to write things so that I am able to read them and understand it use spell check please. Second it doesn't always start but it has been around 5 degrees outside so thats probablypart of the problem, but it idles fine and it has new clutches in it.

QUESTUR83It takes a while for it to warm up but it normaly runs fairly decent at low speeds, like around town and such unless I floor the gas pedal then it sputters, and misses and loses all power

Sounds like it could be the TPS. If its not recognizong WOT then the car acts as you desccribe.

I can understand perfectly what InExile said, its pretty easy to make clear

Might just be a tps like questur said, but it sputters when u floor it, maybe you have a gunk build-up somewhere, whens tlast time u cleaned your TB?

I have never cleaned the TB, but then again I did just buy the car like 2 weeks ago so i haven't seen it run like a dream yet. And yes your right I can actually read what InExile wrote now I was just a little under the influence when I read it the first time and made my reply. Also what is the "TPS". What does it stand for, Im a muscle car guy so fuel injection is completely new to me.

Haha sry, im fairly new to audis to, they take some time, but they get easier with experience.

TPS = Throttle position switch, right where you rthrottle plate is, could try cleaning or replacing, every little bit helps most of the time. You can hear it click when you move the throttle cable.
