Hey everytone. I've got an '81 Audi 2-door 4000S, original engine, 341000 miles on it. anyone know if this is rare?

 

It is one of those obscure Audi models. I don't know what the production numbers were but I would say it is quite rare. I only saw two, both at a junkyard many years ago. There are plenty of old Audi's still on the road but I have yet to see any 2-door sedans. I believe that they were only available in 1980, 1981, and maybe 1982. Once the coup was offered it was discontinued.

Wow. Thanks. My mom and I were trying to confirm if it was rare or not because I am thinking of selling it but couldn't find anything on it. It's got the original engine and whatnot. A few bits have been replaced but mostly it's the original. It sat in my uncle's driveway for four years so it's in pretty bad shape so I was trying to figure out if it was worth the money to fix it up.

 

Rare as it might be it is hard to say if it has any collector value. I have 1978 SAAB 99 EMS and rare as it is it is not worth much. I suggest you do a search on the web or even try looking in Hemmings motor news. This is the only way to know for sure especially if it needs work.

Well I know it needs work. it's got a bit of body rust and it could stand a new paint job. The leather on the dash cracked but I'm going to have that replaced. I need new brakes and a belt somewhere. I probably need some new caps here and there. Other than that it's pretty sound. the tranny was just replaced and adjusted so that's in pretty good condition too. need a new muffler as well. I also found out it is the '81 4000 5+5 sport. I'd like to sell it because I'm poor and can't put the money into it that it needs but I love the car. I want to make sure it's not going to end up in the junkyard in a year or two.
