Default '87 quattro working?

Hello all. While I hesitate to post here...kindof an unused forum it seems. I do have a problem...I think.

I don't know if my locking differentials are working. How do I test a thing like this short of getting stuck and turning them on to get out?

This car has the switch on the dash that you switch into locking rear and locking center. However I stop, switch it to one or the other position and it seems that nothing happens. No lights, no noises, nothing. I'd like to know how to test this system. What to listen for. What to look for.

And lastly...what might be the problem if in fact it isn't working properly.

Frankie

hey

thats a mint 5000 you have.

to test if their working go into a parking lot, lock your diffs, and take hard corners, thatl show if theyre working

If not working, check some of the vacuum lines, or raise the car, hook up a vacuum pump, and test the actuator.

check the vacum lines

I've never had an all wheel drive before. What am I feeling for when I'm taking these hard corners with the diffs locked? Also, which position should I be locking the diffs in? There are two. Rear and Center I believe.

And thanks. It needs a couple things...AC compressor, e-brake cover, new shift boot, front inner door panels(maybe), and a new paint job is also in my plans. Runs quite well. 22mpg, 146,000 miles, absolutely no rust, one very small dent, all controls work properly...except this one possibly. I'm quite happy with it. A very nice upgrade from my little Volkswagen Rabbit.

Oh yes. And I'll really see it perform/teeter-totter all over the track this sunday when I autocross it. It has a fairly new stock suspention that I'll be replacing shortly with a little stiffer and shorter springs.
