Default Heater Need help soon

HI ALL

The heater in my 5000, is acting erratic. sometimes when I start the car the fan immidiatly turns on and everything works fine. But 99% of the time when I want the heater the fan dosent come on. no matter what setting I have the controls on of what fan speed I have it set to it just wont come on. Where should I start in diagnosing this? there is no codes that show in the display. I hope this is a common problem and it wont be too much $ to fix. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance

Had the same problem with my ’91 100Q, replace the flap servo. The potentiometer wears out and cannot provide the proper feedback to the head unit.
