Default How do I replace Blower Motor in 1991 100

I have a 1991 Audi 100 Sedan.

Could someone tell me how to remove the old Heater Blower Motor. Its looks like I may have to take the consol out and get to the bolts that hold the blower assembly on. It then looks like the blower case is split in to. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wayne

I have a 1991 100Q and will be doing the same this week. My heater core leaks and it is time to replace it together with a bunch of other parts. The factory manual isn't too detailed and there will be a lot of trial and error. I hope that it is something like on my previous 4000S, tedious and time consuming but manageable without any special tools.

Thanks for the reply. I will order my blower moter tomorrow so it will probably be next week before I try to install it. I certainly would appreciate any information you could give after you get your apart. Do you think you will have to go in thru the center console inside the car to get the blower housing off. It looks that way to me. I spent about two hours working on it from under the hood with no luck.

I was thinking about ordering a factory manual when I order the blower motor. Is it worth the $138 they want for it.

Thanks Wayne

I replace my blower motor on my 86 5000S. I think there about the same. I went by the instructions I got at this address, http://forums.audiworld.com/v8/msgs/14302.phtml It went pretty smooth.

I have read on another site that in order to replace the blower motor one doesn't have to take out the whole blower assembly. The hardest job is cracking the seal as mentioned in the link above. However I recommend that you take it out and replace the heater core if you haven't done so already. The Audi heater cores are made with plastic sides with aluminum core and it will leak after about ±12 years. On my 4000S the core leaked after 11 years of service and it was constructed almost identically. One word of caution the flaps inside have to go in a certain way in order for the whole thing to work so maybe that manual wouldn't be a bad idea. The Robert Bentley factory manual is the only way to go if you do your own work all others just suck. Haynes is OK but lacks some details as well as not being available for the early 100/200 models.

Hi Bearddee and Offramp,

Thanks for the advise on replacing the fan motor. I think I will replace the heater core while I have everthing apart. I will also get the Bently factory manuals.

I was thinking of ordering the parts from Auto Parts Warehouse. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these people.

Again, thanks for the help. Wish I had know about this forum a long time ago. I have driven nothing but Audi's since 1986 and usually do the work myself after the warrenty goes away.

Auto Parts Warehouse is one of many sites that operates through a single online distributor, if you notice several sites have the same vehicle selector, same stock, same prices and offer free shipping. If you live in NJ you will be charged tax regardless of who you buy from. In any case the service is not bad and I can’t say anything bad. I just got one order from them last week. You might also look into RockAuto and BlauParts.
