hello folks,
I have just recently been offered a 1993 90cs automatic, the cars in pretty good shape but in need of maintenace and repair, as stated its a 1993, it has 60k mi, my parents bought it from a friend about 8 or 9 years ago and only put about 10k mi on it over 5 years, it has been sitting for the last 3 years or so.
the car starts and runs, it makes a few ticks at startup but quickly settles and runs very smooth, there does seem to be an exhaust leak but i havent gotten under it to find the offending part. the big problem and reason it was let to rest, the trans doesnt move in reverse. it will run in all forward gears but put it in reverse it feels as if it goes into gear but doesnt move.
does anyone know what could be the causes of this? should i just have the tranny rebuilt/replaced? what are some things i can do to get back reverse? are there any jersey NY area members that know of a reputable NON dealship shop/mechanic that can be truted to get the tranny fixed at a fair price?
so far i have esablished from the 12v.org site that i should replace the water pump therostat timing belt ad accessory belt,. at this time i will also inspect the head gaskets for oil leaks and possibly change the ehad gaskets and all other commonly replacedparts that will be in access at that time..
thank you for your time if you read this i look forward to getting this quality car back on the road

You definitely need the tranny rebuilt. But why not find a manual to replace it with? Could be fun! Plus less chance of it failing down the line. Also, I have body panels, window glass, and a trunk if you need body panels for our B4 90's.

ok update
i ordered the bently manual (got a great price @67$) and a trans filter, put the car on jack stands couldnt get the damn filler tube off the pan but got the other bolts out to drain some fluid, it looks like coffee.. wondering who this could be i looked in the coolant resivoir and.. looks like coffee.. not good.. so now looks like i can add a radiator to the list and most likely need to replace all plates in thetrans..
OR
sell this barrel of worms to someone who has the time or the money to get this thing onthe road..
also the engine appears to be bleeding oil from every where, i mean every where, the pan seal and look as though there is oil dripping down from maybe the head gaskets and who knows where else.
donate countless hours of time and money to this thing or cut losses ?
