I drive a 1998 A4 2.8L stick with about 100K on it and yesterday the speedometer stopepd working. It registers my speed up to about 20mph and then falls to zero as I speed up.

The strange thing is that I have no check engione light on and I believe that my odometer is still working.

I am thinking it may be a sensor malfunction where it connects on the drivers side of the transmission near the axel output flange. But, I dont have any extensive knowledge about how the Audi speedometor system works. My only other guess is that it may be a coroded wire connection, but I dont know why it would still register speeds up to 20mph.

If anyone has a guess on the problem and a potential cost/fix I would really appreciate it!!
