Default Chip for 99 A4 1.8t

I'm looking at getting a chip for my ECU and get the best "bang for my buck".
Does anyone have suggestions which one to get?
ARP has one they say gives 50hp for $399, performancechipsdirect.com has one for $69 (they don't seem legit....), and I've seen them even higher than $500.

I'm just curious what's out there that is real, and if anyone has seen realistic gains from just adding the chip. Thanks.

APR is your best bet.

Unitronic is the best software though hands down. It has proven itself over and after to be the fastest and smoothest with the least amount of problems

Nobody can say with real confidence that one is better than the other - because they are all about the same. The results you get greatly depend on the car you that you are using it with. There is RARELY ever an issue with the chip/flash itself as opposed to issues that originate or are brought to light with your car after the chip. Like the death of a bypass valve, turbo, coil pack, maf, 02 sensor, etc. that is already on it's way out can be influenced with the addition of a chip.

Bottom line is - Don't believe absolute statements from somebody who is selling the product that they promote unless they supply you with detailed map and dyno sheets from a handful of cars.

- Assume that people are going to base their recommendation on the chip that they have. I used to promote only GIAC until I experienced other brands and realized they are about the same.
- Get the facts. Neuspeed sells or used to sell a 1 bar chip that is weak compared to GIAC, APR, etc. who are typicaly 1.2 bar, but people would try to compare them as equals and then knock Neuspeed.

The days of singling out one brand as being the best should be long gone. Again, unless somebody is providing maps and detailed dyno sheets of a handful of the same cars using their chip in contrast to others, don't beleive it.

GIAC is great, and so are the rest, including Speedtuning, APR, Uni, etc.. There are some noteable differences between them all, but no differences to fuss about. I have logged timing, fuel, etc. with GIAC and Speedtuning stg.2 and they were extremely similar, as they feel. I'd say the best bang for the buck is Speedtuning. You can't beat the price, and the customer service is more than good in my experience.

Just called Speedtuning. They offered me a great price compared to the other companies because I'm a member of this forum. I'll be sending in my ECU this week, and let you all know how it goes!
