Question EPC Light and a stall in the intersection

Damn. I've got this little issue: 2005 A4 1.8T that will start fine in the a.m., drive fine, until I shut it off. Then it has trouble starting. Not terrible until I'm in the middle of an intersection and it dies. It's an AT. EPC and check engine light come on and it won't start. Not good for publicity I think... Any how, the code pulled by Checker, since Audi and Vee-Dub are closed at 1 on Saturday, shows R0322, camshaft positioning sensor. I replaced it, disconnected the battery, and then waited. Tried running today about 3 miles, and it happened again. Any thoughts?

Quick update- Audi dealer says it is the fuel pump. Just in case this happens to anyone else.

Or it could have been the fuel filter... Cheaper to replace than the fuel pump. I'm getting the exact same issue with my 02 and my search has revealed allot of possibilities. If you haven't had yours fixed yet, pull the coilpacks, inspect them fo any unusual burn marks, and reinstall them after that. Try running the car and see if it happens again. If it does, replace the fuel filter (it has to be changed anyway) and then see if it happens again and go from there. Don;t let the dealership sucker you in for more money than necessary

Well, turns out it was the RPM sensor... After replacing the fuel pump, fuel filter, and camshaft positioning sensor. The joys of owning Audi.

WOW lol. Gotta love Audi's stellar diagnostic procedures eh??? Thanks for the final update booker. I'm taking mine in tomorrow so we'll see what it is.

Cheers

They pulled tons of faults and replaced the Engine Coolant temp sensor but that was only the tip of the iceberg. One thing I did notice was there was a fault that read: 16706 ignition distributor engine speed input circuit - no signal... So, I think I'm gonna change the rpm sensor.. Anyone have any thoughts or comments on my fault code????

My wife's car has the EPC light on and same problems as well. So I am going to check the coil-packs and change the fuel filter and see what happens, but let us know if the RPM sensor fixes yours also Pablo.

Hey Booker and Zootang,

Yesterday I replaced the fuel filter and tried the car out. Just ten minutes into the drive, the car stalled at an intersection just like booker's did many times. Today I just finished replacing the Engine speed sensor by following the instructions on this site

http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...eedsensor.html

Drove the car for 30 minutes and NOTHING! It looks like this exact problem is a direct result of the engine speed sensor.

Zootang, try replacing that first and see what happens.

Cheers

P.S.

Audi calls this par the engine speed sender so
speed sender
speed sensor
RPM sensor.

All the same thing. Just be sure to give the dealership your vin number when you request the part so the parts guy gives you the right part for your car.
