Default Fuel pipe- can rats damage it?

Hi, I have an Audi A4 and is about a year old. The other day I noted the fuel was leaking from the car and on inspection Audi has indicated that the fuel pipe was chewed by rats!!!!! is this even possible? I was under the impression that there would be some kind of a membrane/ protective shield for all this.

Does anyone have any views?

I think Audi is just trying to move away from a factory fault....

interesting... I have personal experience in rodents causing engine troubles. I suppose its possible rats could chew it, though I would think that the gasoline smell and taste would deter them rather quickly. Have you changed a fuel filter recently?
