Default Looking to buy a VAG-COM cable, question.

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct topic forum but I found this cable on amazon http://www.amazon.com/OBD2-Diagnosti.../dp/B002WIN8VQ would this work with the software and my car 1998 A4?

Also I read that there are two cables, one has hex in the name (I don't really remember) are there any differences?

I know that will work but that one costs $349.99. Would the one I posted work as well? And I could save a couple hundreds.

You're paying for the software (download). The cable itself is incidental.

Of course you also need a laptop, with the minimum spec's cited.

So the cable itself doesn't matter as long as it is a Hex-USB + CAN cable and acquire the software elsewhere?

The software can be downloaded for free from Ross-Tech. If you have an official Ross-Tech cable or you buy a license you can unlock the full version of the software. The cable from Ross-Tech has the license "built in" or you can buy a license to use with your unofficial cable. I think the license is $99.
