Default Throttle Cable question

Last night I noticed that the clear plastic sheath that covers my throttle cable was very brittle and cracking. I actually pulled about4 inches of it off....where the cable is very close to the TB. Is this going to be an issue......as in time to replace the whole throttle cable, or does it not matter? I have a 98 1.8T

Its a pain in the **$ to change the throttle cable, so if it isn't falling off of the TB or causing the car to idle funny i wouldn't worry about it.

I have another question.....related to this. This is my first Audi, so I don't know if this is normal, but the throttle cable seems pretty loose. I can push down on the cable and before it even moves the spool that is connected to the TB, the cable goes down a significant amount. There seems to be about 2-3 inches of slack with the cable. Is that a normal amount of slack, or should the cable be tighter than that?

Thats a normal amount of slack to have, as long as its not falling off of the TB your fine. Adjusting it will only pull the cable tighter so you might change the idle if you pull it too tight.[sm=badidea.gif]
