Hi, I have recently bought a 1997 A8 3.7 Sport. She drove lovely for the first couple of days then I started having problems with her starting. On the outside lane she suddenly cut out. Getting her towed back by the AA i had the local garage look at her. The diagnosis was a faulty Fuel Pump. Had a new one installed. The garage recons that it was the fuel gauge that is faulty and that I had run out of petrol. With me trying to start her continually I have burnt the fuel pump out. Having looked through the old receipts she has had a fuel pump, fuel filter and lambda sensor fitted last August. Since the new fuel pump fitted, there is a continuous smell of fuel inside the car. The following codes were on the readout before the fitting of the new fuel pump:

I drove her to a clients the other day and when leaving she would start and then stop immediately. This lasted about 20 minutes. When I finally got her started she is running very lumpy.

An suggestions would be most welcome as I am new to the A8.
