I have quite strange problem with my 2008 Audi A5 6-speed manual 3.2. My auto-dimming mirrors don’t dim when driving while headlights on. At first I thought that they stopped working all together but today I noticed as I started the car (10pm) I saw all mirrors dim because of the cars coming from behind me. I got excited but when I flipped the switch to turn on my headlights the auto dimming stopped working. So if I was to drive with headlights off at night my mirrors will dim but as soon as I turn them on – they stop. It almost seems like programming fault of some sort. Any thoughts?

Little background (not sure if it’s related). Few months ago I had an issue where my whole MMI would reset itself every 30 seconds and audio would turn off for 2-3 seconds and then be ok for 30 seconds. And whole process repeats. I brought my car to the dealer thinking certified warranty would cover but it does not and dealer wanted to first charge $750 to upgrade the firmware and see if that would help. Since I was already flirting with idea of trading it in for a newer model I didn’t go with the upgrade. Then 1 month later MMI started to work normal again. But I don’t know if that dimming issue was already happening before or during or just after. I figured I mention it just in case someone might know something that I don’t that could be related to my auto dimming mirror issue.
