Default door gasket protectants

My A4 Avant doors freeze shut, because the "rubber" gaskets freeze to the car body. I want to apply something (like an oil) to prevent this, but when I read forums around the web, the advice is contradictory and confused.

Some say to apply an oil (vegetable, automotive, or other) to the car body to prevent the ice from grabbing. Other suggestions were silicone spray, WD-40, and something called 303.

Anyone know the truth?

I have used talcum powder on all my previous cars without incident. Not sure what else you could try....good luck.

I would try first the silicon spray. Much safer to use than the chemical wd40.

Avoid WD-40 and the like as well as anything else with petroleum distillates. Best thing is to be sure the gasket is clean and dry, and if you really want to use something, try something like Pinnacle Vinyl & Rubber Protectant or the Wolfgang Vinyl & Rubber Protectant. Neither of them contain petroleum distillates that could cause the rubber to dry out. Just apply a tiny bit to a microfiber towel or applicator pad and wipe on.

I would say look at 1Z Einszett Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pflege

You can get it at Einszett Rubber Care Stick Gummi Pflege, gummi pflege

1Z Einszett Rubber Care Stick “Gummi Pflege” conditions rubber weather seals on car doors, windows and trunks, protects and keeps the rubber elastic, restores color to dried out rubber, protects against extreme temperature and UV rays.

That's my best guess. Hope it helps
