I have been fighting this problem for a year now, but I have to get it solved. Last winter, the sound started to get all distorted when cold, and would get better after it warmed up. It has been getting steadily worse and worse and now is always bad. I replaced the HU but it still did the same thing, so I figure it must be the amplifier. Can anyone tell me where the hell the amplifier is and how to get to it? My hope is to get the amplifier out and try to find a replacement one from ebay once I know for sure what it looks like. The dealer has been zero help and I am starting to go crazy.

Ok... I found the amp. It was hiding in the subwoofer speaker box. It turns out that it is part number: 8D9 035 381 B. Last year, I bought a replacement amp from ebay that was part number: 8D0 035 225 A as they listed it as the one in my car. Oops.

Is there anyway I could use this one as a replacement? It is physically larger, so I would have to mount it elsewhere. Plus, they have different connectors (26 pin vs 25 pin) but if I were to find the wiring diagram for both.... maybe I could get it to work.

If not, what do people think is my best bet in getting this working again? Should I try an aftermarket amp? Wait and see if one pops up on ebay? other??
