99 A4 6 disc changer - how to play?

When I press mode to switch from radio/tape to the CD changer, nothing happens.

Is there a radio frequency or something else needed to be able to play cd's?

Do you have a cd changer in the car? If you do, it may have become disconnected either at the HU or at the cd changer itself. Could also have a busted changer.
