Default A3 speaker buzz with non-standard head unit installed

Guys,

I've recently replaced the standard Audi Chorus radio/cassette in my A3 with a Sony CD head unit which I had in my previous car. Since the Sony has been in, the 2 rear speakers give off an annoying buzz when the unit is powered on, even if the volume is on zero. Is there a known problem connecting 3rd party head units?

I'm using an Audioleads wiring harness PC9-401, and my Sony head unit is a CDX-MP70.

Thanks,

Gary

Try posting this in VW Vortex. Those guys are audio tech heavy.

Here's a link: VW Vortex Audio forum

Just be sure to mention your year, make and model.

And come back and post the results here so they can be archived for future reference.

Thanks and good luck.

My guess is you have a bad ground somewhere.

Sounds like you've got a ground loop problem. Run better ground to your head unit and the buzz should clear up. If not, try a ground loop isolator. Ten bucks at a stereo store.

I thought ground loop isolators were for RCA cables? And yes, you may want to drill yourself a new ground or find a bolt as close to the headunit as posible instead of using the brown audi ground.

I jsut got my 92 100-had a old cd player in it and only one speaker working, and that had the BUZZ going---found it much eaier to just run new wires to all speaker and buy new speakers..I bought some cheap kenwoods at best buy $110 total for front and rear--guess what they sound 100% better than I had for little $$$--there lound enough for me and sound good----just my 2 cents-----
