Default after market stereo fitting

I own a 2001 1.9 TDI Audi A3, I have just bought a DVD player to replace the standard fitted audi stereo, however when trying to fit it, no matter what I do, i cant get power to it in the audi. I've fitted it within about 10 minutes in my mates saxo, powers up and works fine.

I've been told something about audis having a different earth than other cars, how can i make this DVD player work? is there anyway of bypassing the audi earthing problem? Or do i have to go to a garage and get it fitted correctly?

any help you cud give wud be gratefully recieved

Do you have the right wiring harness for it? Before you do anything else I would take it to a electronics store or specialist and see if they can see whats wrong, if you wire it wrong you could short something out and that would suck big time. So I would get some advice from a professional befoer you do anything else.
