Default Aggravating nuisance

I bought my 2000 A4 1.8TQM just over a year ago now, and ever since I have owned it I have been receiving the (O) brakepads symbol, Bulb symbol, Brake Light text, Washerfluid symbol on my drivers info display. None of these are faulty. New pads, fluid full, no burned bulbs, brake lights fine. Owners manual indicated that a system failure will present itself with the Bulb Icon in the drivers info center, but no more information as to what system has failed.

I had shop check with VAG. The only problem even closely related was no communication with ABS module. I FINALLY just got around to having it rebuilt (Thanks MM for VERY quick service) The ABS now works, but display remains...GRRR! (never had an "ABS" nor "Brake" light illuminate in the dash.)

My reset button and rocker switch on the end of the wiper stalk do not work as well. hmmmm. If I run the diagnostic with the button on the instrument cluster, It cycles through and everything comes up "OK" VAG also reported that the Instrument cluster appears to have been replaced. (So I really have no idea if mileage is correct)

Now when I turn the ignition on, I do not get the "ABS" and "Brake" light to illuminate even for a moment as I suspect it should and then go out. I have a hunch dealership removed the bulb (possibly why I get the bulb indicator on the drivers info display?)

Any Thoughts, comments, Ideas, direction

Default ummmm....I guess I must be an idiot...or brilliant....

well, first I now know there are no bulbs in the instrument cluster...and I definitely made myself out to be a total moron. But the good news is, the driver's info center is fixed! I found black electrical tape over the "ABS" and "Brake" lights in the dash. PLUS...some asshat had applied black paint to the LEDs! I used electrical cleaner and a small screwdriver to scrape off the paint. I replaced the cluster and VIOLA! almost all the warnings were gone! (except the (O), gotta look elsewhere now) AND I can now toggle through my settings on the screen with the rocker at the end of the wiper stalk.
