bose pretty much hates everything. my rear passenger speaker dropped a deuce on itself and i had to get some new speakers in the back so i went with some kickers for about $230 because the ones i looked at for $120 sounded almost as bad as the dead speaker. i think that was more because the $120 couldn't hold up to being used as a sub but even so while we installed we were hoping that bose would accept it since they like to be special. you can try to throw an amp in there but if it ends up not working, you would have to get a new head unit that wouldn't be so picky.

I have a system with a stock symphony II headunit. I got a rca converter and hooked it up through the rear left door speaker. There are other routes to go. but u dont have to replace ur headunit to run aftermaket subs. look under stereo and interior http://www.a4mods.com/index.php?page...alvecover.html
Also if u hold the mode button on the headunit a new display pops up with more adjustment levels for the stock speakers to fine tune. I have two alpines with a hifonics 1200 watt mono amp and it bumps so im pretty sure u can run aftermaket.
