Identify Navigation System
I just bought my first Audi (YAY). It is a 2001 A4-Avant, and so far I love it.
It has the navigation system installed, display in the dash between the tachometer
and speedometer. The downside is that I of course have no CDs for it. I have
been trying to identify if I need to purchase the C-Nav maps or the D-Nav maps.
Everyone I talk to tells me a different answer. I really just want the cd for my area
(NW & SW usa - disc #2), as I have never seen it running and don't know if it is
useful or a waste of money.
Can anyone tell me what system I have and what I need to buy? Is my best bet
trying to get it on ebay or ? Can you put D-nav maps in a C-nav system (I assume
not, but worth asking)? Thanks for any advice anyone has. I would rather not get
into this for a lot of money until I try it and find out how useful it is.

Anyone? Anyone?
I am a bit confused on this. I go to the delership, they call up Navtech and
tell me D-Nav. I call up Navtech, they tell me C-Nav. I would like to try to
find on ebay or something, but I need to know the right one to buy. Everyone
has a no-refund policy if it turns out to be the wrong one. Would be nice if
I could borrow one to test...but no luck in finding that either.
*UPDATE* Navteq seems pretty confident that I need the C-Nav discs. Ok..
I can accept that. My next question is if the Audi C-Nav discs are the same as
the VW C-Nav or BMW or Benz C-Nav discs. I know that 99% of the disc must
be the same (data) but I wonder if they are 100% compatible. Anyone put a
VW disc in their Navigation system and have it work? If so, it opens my possibilities
on ebay...
Thanks in advance

raoul,
yes your 2001 A4 needs a C-navi disk. You can probably find a used one on ebay for about $30. The last disk update for C-navi was in 1/04. Also, I am pretty sure that the MB C-navi disk will work with your Nav drive (just not the disk from the ML class)
See my posts here on www.navplus.us for more details.
