I just installed a new headunit in my 1999.5 A4 1.8T. It all went in great, but I didn't have the antenna adapter so I'll put that in later. Well, I turned everything on before buttoning it up and it played a cd just fine. Once I got it in there, I needed to turn the car around. I started it and started moving forward and this is where things went down hill. The screen flashed "CALL" and when I stopped, it tried to play the CD again. If I put it back into Park it will go back to the CD. Did I wire the harness wrong (hope not since it's all color coded) or are the extra harnesses messing something up. Also, I wired both "mute" wires together when I put the harness together. Just wondering if that is what happened. I did take the old ground off the stock radio and attached it to the new one and hooked it up and it did the same thing. Also, would not having the antenna plugged in do anything? I didn't think so but you never know.

Why did you wire the mutes together? Try just taping the ends off.

 

A harness came with the radio and then there was an adapter for the Audi harness. When wiring them together, all the wires matched up, but audi adapter had 2 brown mute wires and the HU harness only had 1. So, I wired them all together. Do you have to wire them together at all? Thanks for the input. I have till tomorrow morning to work on the car so feedback is welcome!

 

Eureka!!!! I went out and snipped the mute wires and it works perfect! Thanks for the knock up side the head new2me!!
