Default newb to stereo equip, advice plz

ok i have a 2001 a4 with bose. the rear speaker (sub?) is blown, i have the bass turned way down and its just sounds horrible, sounds like it has a tear... anyway i want to replace it, and or upgrade it. i just dont know a lot about car audio, if you have any suggestions or anything like that i'd appreciate any help

oh yea, i'm not the type to go for insane bass, where the trunk sounds like its gonna rattle off. i just want something that can handle some bass, but all i care about is sound quality, not so much the bump i get

THOSE CAN EASILY BE REPLACED. THEY ARE 6-1/2" SPEAKERS. I HAVE A PAIR OF JL AUDIO XR SERIES COAXS IN THE REAR DECK HOOKED UP TO A JL AUDIO AMP. BUT WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR I JUST TOOK THE BOSE SPEAKERS OUT AND HOOKED THE NEW ONES TO THE BOSE AMP UNTIL I REPLACED MY SYSTEM.

THE BOSE SPEAKERS THAT COME WITH THE CAR ARE 2 OHM. MOST AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS ARE 4 OHM. THE SPEAKERS DETERMINE THE LOAD ON THE AMPLIFIER NOT THE AMP ITSELF. SO IF THE AMP CAN HANLE A 2 OHM LOAD THEN IT CAN HANDLE A 4 OHM LOAD EASY.
EXAMPLE: THE AMP IS RATED AT 50 WATTS PER CHANNEL @ 2 OHMS. IF YOU CONNECT A 2 OHM SPEAKER TO THAT CHANNEL YOU'LL GET 50 WATTS, BUT IF YOU CONNECT A 4 OHM SPEAKER TO THAT CHANNEL YOU WILL USUALLY GET HALF THE RATED POWER (25 WATTS).

Make sure the little cap? on the speaker just didnt come unglued. Sometimes that happens with the Bose and it will vibrate around in there and make it sound like its blown. If thats the case, a thin layer of super glue will do the trick.

I am with replacing the whole works, the first thing I did was replace the deck and all four speakers with Alpine R Type components all around. Your best bet would probably be to run new speaker wire if you plan on removing the amplified speakers or getting an amp-bypass kit. As hard as many companies try stock car audio systems leave a lot to be desired, thats why people like Alpine, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate and the likes do such a booming business. If you are really looking for "symphony sound", and you have the cash to burn, check out your local alpine dealer and check into the Alpine F#1 Status setup, you will never look back!

If you need help with any of your stock stereo equipment gimme a shout or drop me an email, I have years of experience with mobile and home audio.

Take care,

Trev
