Default Q5 fog lights constantly on

Recently purchased a 2011 q5, 3.2,great car no problems low milage etc.
One issue has raised its head in the process of looking the car over i discovered my foglight housings/reflectors have melted inside, further investigation uncovered the fact the fogs have being wired to come on with the headlights, thus no way to turn them off, no error message on dash if light switch is left in the auto or low beam position( fogs lights remain on), but if i push the independent fog light switch on dash i get the warning for both front fogs( bulbs blown), but fogs remain on, only go off when switch is in the drl or sidemarker position.

Said relay

under the hood i see there are wires spliced into the the foglight harness on bothsides, feed into a relay and tapped somewhere into the headlight.
main issue is the burning of the reflector inside the fog light housing due to fogs constantly on,heat being produced, have h11 55w halogens, could LEDs be a cooler solution? If so any advise?
Or any advice on how to disconnect the spice and go back to factory specs? Fairly handy with all things automotive but just dont want to blow anything in this new baby. Any help greatly appreciated.
