Default How to Repair Adaptive Headlights? Help please

The 'Adaptive light defective' warning alarm and sign came up on our car about 1 month ago. (2006, A6, 110k miles, with adaptive headlights). I know this is common. The adaptive function is not working on both lights - strange that it would fail simultaneously on both. (could it be a fuse or relay?) But both regular and high beam lights work fine on both.

So, I want to disable the alarm and warning light. I have searched this forum and the web, but found no solution except replacing the entire headlight assembly. That costs $1000 x 2 from the dealer; a big expense just to regain the adaptive feature. Some posts recommend pulling certain fuses to disable the warning - I have tried many fuses with no luck.
Suggestions?
If I pull the front bumper and get to the headlights, can I disable/fool/rejigger the connector or something?
Is there a fuse to pull to disable the warning alarm and light?
Can the adapter motors be replaced ($120 each from the dealer) while retaining the headlight modules?
Can someone provide a wiring diagram of the headlight/adapter unit?
Your help is much appreciated.

I just changed the title and wanted to give this a bump. There have been many views, but no suggestions yet. Has anyone solved this problem yet, without spending $2k at the dealer?
