Adaptive headlights defective
I am a new poster to this site having owned my Audi for 2 years since new. I have a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro. Recently it has started giving the error "Adaptive Headlight Defective"almost (but not quite) every time the car is started. Has anyone else seen this problem? My VERY small amount of knowledge about this car (I'm much more at home with 50's and 60's cars I can work on myself) indicates that each headlight may be a single unit which incorporates all the lighting components as well as all the controls to raise/lower & turn the beam. If so, I fear that the answer I'm going to get from the dealer is "you need a new unit", and some big $$$$ will be the result. The car is less than 3 years old, but at close to 60,000 miles is out of warranty, so I want to explore other options before going to a dealer. The error message doesn't indicate which headlight is having the problem.

RE: Adaptive headlights defective
you should find someone with vag-com to read the code for you. It may be the auto-leveling sensor which is defective(hopefully not) which might be a pain to fix since it's located on the driver side front and rear suspesion parts. You may have a defective leveling motor, which acutally moves the projector up and down. This should be a cheaper fix.
