Picked up my 06 A6 and brought it home using the cig plugs for the radar detector but I soon learned they are always powered unlike many other cars when you turn them off. What's a few alternative places to wire it into..safely?

BTW, I used the rube goldbug analogy only because I've got the regular cord running along the headliner grab handles to get to the rear cig lighter connection..I'm also now getting allot of "laser alert" false alerts,at least I'm fairly sure their false since I switched it over to the Audi but that's another issue anyway regardless of what I use, it will need to be wired in, it's a lousy setup and I just hope someone in the forums can point me to how to wire this in to an A6-safely- I'm sure others have had to deal with the wiring. Also, I can't just stick this detector on the windshield mainly because of theft but also I go occationally where they are outlawed (canada) plus the police everywhere will nail you for something else if they see them IMO.

I guess nobody reads this forum who wired a radar detector to an A6..There must be a better place to post electronic audi questions.

Not a lot of people venture in the Electronic section these days. I have run across one site that explained what is safe to tap in to, so if I find it I'll make sure to post it here. I'm looking to hard-wire my gps in (so that it turns off w/ the vehicle) so I'm in the same boat.

samsyabi, Please post you suggestion, the best solution I've had suggested was via the fuse box but I'm not clear on which fuse or how they did it since it was on a A3 and not the A6. Thanks
