Default Maximum tire width without fender rubbing?

I'm looking at getting rims for my b5 A4. It has stock suspension so it's not lowered or anything. Does anyone have an idea on how wide i can go without the tires rubbing the fenders on a bump? I was looking at 8 inch width which I know I'll most likely be safe with but I'm not sure about 9 or 9.5 inch. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 2000 Avant A4 with sport suspension. The original tires were 205/55/16. I recently put on 2008 A4 Sport wheels with 235/45/17's. They dont rub at all and has about an inch of clearence from hitting anything.
