00 A4 just shut off while driving...WTF
My girlfriend was driving the car (00 A4 1.8T Quattro) and all of a sudden the oil light comes on and beeps 3 times then all of a sudden the car completely dies. I mean the car just shut off. She pulled over to the side and tried to start the car but nothing. The battery is strong, lights, horn and radio works but the car doesn't start. It'll turn over like it wants to start, but doesn't run. It's like trying to start a car with no gas in it.
Any thoughts on what could be the problem?
Thanks
Eric

Yeah, you might want to check the oil first. Does the idle fluctuate while idling? If it does, you might want to check the idle control valve. I had a similar problem with my 96 audi just recently. The idle would fluctuate and then die, although I never had it die while driving. But look into it if the oil is not the problem.
Ok. in the manual it states that when the oil light comes on and beeps three times (which it did) there is a problem with the engine and improper oil pressure or something.
Funny thing is that I just had the oil changed about 1 month ago

funny thing is that when people change the oil.. some times then forget to completely tighten the oil plug.. and everntually, the vibration will make it fall out, drain your oil, then leave u with no oil, which will make your audi shut off completely because of a safety feature so u wont kill the motor..simple things for large problems! kevin
Once I was doing so spirited driving and right in the middle of a heel-toe downshift, while the clutch was disengaged, I braked too hard and leaned into the ignition and my knee turned the key and shut off the car. It happened a couple more times before I realized what was going on and adjusted my seat. Turns out my dad had been driving my car and moved the seat up.
biggest danger is if the timing belt snapped which causes the engine to stop like that so check on oil/water/timing belt/fuel inertia cut off switch/engine and battery grounds and have it checked for fault codes I wish you good luck
hi my audi a4 1.8 t 2006 was sounding like a truck drove another 100k and switched of, when i opened the hood there where fine rubber stuff thinks its fromt he came, what could be the problem or and it took 6 pint of oil during my 600k drive

"when i opened the hood there where fine rubber stuff thinks its fromt he came" Can you restate this in English?
You obviously have an oil leak. If the oil level gets down far enough to trip the light, the ECU will sometimes shut down the engine to prevent damaging it. No oil PSI will KILL an engine quick. Big $$ to fix it when you run them with no oil.
