100W Fog Light Bulbs - Too Hot?
Because my 2001 Allroad has HID's, I wanted to upgrade the fog lights to be the same bluish colour, so bought some 'xenon' H7 bulbs to do the upgrade. Possible problem is that the new bulbs are 100w rather than the stock 55w. I've used 100w (H4) bulbs in proper glass Hella lenses before without any problems but am more worried about the Audi fog lights since they have more plastic components (reflectors, lenses, & housing all appear to be plastic)
Has anyone had experience with hotter 100w bulbs in Audi fog lights (& specifically the H7 type)? I am running with these now, and so far no melting, but my guess is that a hot summer day is when I'll find out whether they melt (I live in Canada where the fog lights are the DRL's so are on all the time (DRL=Daytime Running Lights))

Can't say specifically about Audi, but, back in Europe I had some 130W Halogens on my Alfa Romeo Alfetta... They were driving lights, tho, not fogs. Metal casing, too, but only the lens was too hot to touch, not the housing. Most of the heat goes out the front, I'm guessing. They were SOOPER bright. Threw light almost 1/4 mile. Great for dark roads. Illegal as all get out, too. Most civilized countries limit "road" lights to 55W. Not sure about your municipality, you'd hafta check, especially if you're using them as DRL's (we all pretty much know what DRL means, BTW). As far as teh heat, if they're "Xenon-charged" they'll run significant;y cooler than Halogens, anyway, so I doubt you'd have a problem with that.
again, I have no specific experience with Audi fogs and higher wattage bulbs. Keep us posted, though. I maw want to hide a set of 100Wers behind my grill for I-D-10T's who don't know where their bright-light switch is

Brand is Optilux model Xenon White XB. Colour match is way closer than the old incandescents.
Optilux is a Hella brand as the website on the package is www.hellausa.com in Peachtree City California.
Regarding AWDaholic's post, you have reassured me somewhat, I had felt the hot lens and assumed hotter inside but you are probably right that the heat is focused out the front, along with the light.
Also, I did not want to presume that those outside Canada (or Sweden?) had heard of DRL but glad to hear you have. There are plenty of Canadians that have no idea, they think that their headlights are on, and drive obliviously through the night with no taillights, and very dim headlights. I suspect, though, that those same people got their drivers' licences out of a cracker jack box!

Again, Xenon's draw less current for a given lumen output. Going with a much higher output will bring tegh current load to maybe sloghtly more than stock. I doubt the car'd even notice...
I just bought some xenon bulbs for my a6 there H3 100w 6000k plug and play. My fuse is 15amps before I plug them in will I need a bigger fuse?? Or will the 15amp fuse beable to handle the 100w fogs and my stock rear fogs? Just wondering. I don't want to blow anything or mess up any wiring.
Like Crazyhawk said back in 2007 above, I'd worry about the current draw, specifically that it may cause overheating in the harness (saw that in other cars). Convert them to HIDs and be done with it.
